On Saturday, October 3, 2026, Saturday Morning Cartoons United will present Giving Back with The Real Ghostbusters: A 40th Anniversary Celebration, a special charity event celebrating four decades of the beloved animated series as part of the spirit of Ghostbusters Give Back, the franchise’s commitment to using the power of Ghostbusters fandom to support charitable causes and communities.
The afternoon will feature a special live script reading with members of the original cast, including Maurice LaMarche ("Dr. Egon Spengler", voice actor), Laura Summer ("Janine", voice actor), Phil LaMarr (MADtv, Futurama) as "Winston", Laraine Newman (Saturday Night Live), and additional surprise guests. Together, they’ll bring the voices and spirit of The Real Ghostbusters back to the stage for a one-of-a-kind 40th anniversary celebration. The reading is cast and produced by Patrick Cotnoir (The George Lucas Talk Show, Hey, That’s Me! A Commentary Podcast).
The event will also feature a special live musical performance by The Flux Capacitors Band, including a performance of the iconic The Real Ghostbusters theme song. The performance will celebrate the music that helped make the series an unforgettable part of the Saturday morning television experience.
In addition to the live script reading and musical performance, the celebration will feature a special screening of The Real Ghostbusters as well as an independent animated short, McBusters, created by Myke Chillian. Inspired by the world and spirit of The Real Ghostbusters, the animated short offers an additional celebration of the creative influence the franchise has had on generations of artists and animators.
Attendees can also expect exclusive surprises throughout the afternoon, along with the opportunity to preview a special selection of Ghostbusters merchandise, giving fans a chance to take a piece of the 40th anniversary celebration home with them.
Presented by nonprofit Saturday Morning Cartoons United in collaboration with Sony Pictures, Ghost Corps, and Ghostbusters Give Back, the event will bring fans, performers and the animation community together for an afternoon of nostalgia, celebration and purpose. A portion of the event’s proceeds will benefit Starlight Children’s Foundation, a national nonprofit with a mission to deliver happiness to seriously ill kids and their families through programs – including character-themed hospital gowns – provided free of charge to children’s hospitals nationwide.

Originally premiering in 1986, The Real Ghostbusters became one of the defining animated series of its era, expanding the world of Ghostbusters for a generation of Saturday morning viewers. With its memorable characters, distinctive humor, unforgettable music and beloved voice performances, the series continues to have a devoted following 40 years later.
The event will take place at Dynasty Typewriter, located at 2511 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA, on Saturday, October 3, 2026. Doors open at 1:00 PM, with The Flux Capacitors performing a full one-hour set from 1:00–2:00 PM, followed by the main program from 2:00–4:00 PM.
